Setting Up Your Ceramic Studio with Alana Casey

Covid update: Our studio follows all Covid regulations including air purifiers, extraction fans, covid cleaning after every class and *mask wearing for all when inside.

Tutor: Experienced potter and Slow Clay Centre teacher Alana Casey (@usagiceramics).

Course content: Setting Up Your Ceramics Studio will cover many of the basics such as

  • studio design considerations
  • choosing the correct clay for your needs
  • basics of glaze testing
  • packing and unpacking kilns and kiln care
  • advised firing cycles
  • recycling clay
  • health and safety considerations
  • essential environmental best-practice

What you will get: You will gain confidence and an understanding of how to approach setting up a ceramics studio of your own and getting started with firing kilns!

Prerequisites: A passion for ceramics and learning! This course will suit people who have some basic practical experience as a maker – some beginner’s classes at a minimum – and who wish to learn about becoming more independent as a maker. It will be equally suitable for people who have had more practical experience but want this extra valuable info. If you have a passion for ceramics and some basic practical experience as a maker this course is made for you to step up your practice!

Fees: $585 full price, $545 Earlybird/Concession/SCC current students. Bookings can be secured with a 50% deposit. The balance is due 3 weeks before the start date.

  • If we cannot find a replacement student you are welcome to gift it to a friend or join a waiting list for a future course that has vacancies.
  • Please note: We do not give refunds if you cancel due to illness but there is a refund insurance available at the check out gateway which we highly advise.
